The former Brazilian president taken into custody after being deemed a flight risk
Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.
The one-time leader was found guilty of plotting a military coup in last fall and given more than a 27-year term in prison, but he was staying under house arrest pending court reviews.
High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.
This involved attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a invitation to a public vigil that could "allow for a possible escape.
Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns
In a filing authorising the detention, Justice Moraes said data from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his flight.
This, it said, would be assisted by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.
His offspring, his son Flávio, who serves as a legislator, called for a meeting of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on the weekend.

Background on Conviction
Bolsonaro was found guilty of heading a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the presidential race to his ideological adversary, President Lula.
Top judicial officials said that he knew of a scheme which included plans to murder the current president and his running partner, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute Alexandre de Moraes - the top judicial official who has been overseeing Bolsonaro's trial.
