The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Might Finish... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that Pluribus would become a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Viewer Reception

One could easily to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“It's like being an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it from others, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Has the creator Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren’t being guided by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “but we are always ready to discard a good idea for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, one could always use the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
