Australian rugby league's administration has announced that players who join the “breakaway” R360 competition will be banned for 10 seasons.

R360, which plans to launch in 2026, is hoping to draw athletes from both codes with substantial agreements and a reduced game calendar.

Leading NRL stars have reportedly been approached by the breakaway group, which will feature multiple men's clubs and four women's teams based in major cities worldwide.

Representing Samoa Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, who represents the Warriors in the NRL, has confirmed he has had talks with the new organization.

Papenhuyzen, Zac Lomax, Haas and Gray are also believed to be thinking about signing the rebel league.

Eight major rugby union countries, including Australia, earlier announced a prohibition on R360 recruits appearing in international matches.

“We heard our franchises and we've acted decisively,” stated the league's chief V'Landys.

“Sadly, there will persistently exist groups that seek to pirate our code for economic benefit.

“They avoid funding in talent pipelines or the development of athletes. They simply exploit the dedication of other organizations, jeopardizing careers of economic hardship while benefiting financially.

“They are, in reality, imitating the sport.”

The league is established by ex-England star Tindall and backed by independent financiers.

Subsequent to the prospective rugby union prohibitions were revealed recently, it commented: “We seek to cooperate in partnership as a component of the global rugby calendar.

“The series is designed with bespoke schedules for men's and women's teams and R360 will permit participants for global fixtures, as specified in their agreements.”

The new league will apply for endorsement for its plans from World Rugby, union's regulatory group, at its board session in the coming year.
