Former Physician Accused of Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors report that a ex- doctor stands accused of committing assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.

The Grave Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.

One senior CPS official commented, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Investigation

These allegations come after what investigators called a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at medical facilities: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents outline the 45 charges include:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
