Antony Price, Famed for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.
His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and performative fashion, including the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."
Price's death comes less than a month after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.
After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in partnership with the label 16Arlington.
